HTTPS Everywhere

Encrypts communications with many major websites

Basic info

HTTPS Everywhere is a browser extension that ensures that your communication with many major websites is encrypted. An HTTPS connection means that any information you share with that website - including entering passwords - is protected in transit. Many websites connect with unencrypted HTTP by default, even where encrypted HTTPS is an option; HTTPS Everywhere automatically looks for the HTTPS encrypted connection, and uses it wherever it is possible.

The Electronic Fronteir Foundation and the Tor project saw that even if websites offer visitors encrypted communication through HTTPS, the unencrypted and thus insecure HTTP connection is still the default. To prevent this the two organizations have developed HTTPS Everywhere, which automatically looks for the HTTPS encrypted connection of many major websites.
