The settings offer the option to protect the tweet you are sending. If selected, only those followers you approve of will receive the tweet. However, when these protected tweets are retweeted, they go public. It is also advisable not to select the option to tweet your location since Twitter stores this location. You can switch location on/off before each tweet. If you tweet sensitive content write, "mark my media as containing sensitive content" so people to whom this content might refer can be warned. Consider using a pseudonym or false identity if you are tweeting critiques of officials or governments.
